19 major weather events claimed over 1500 lives in 2019. Heavy rains and floods were responsible for over 60 per cent of the deaths. Majority of the deaths were caused in Bihar where 306 people fall prey to floods and heavy rain, 292 died due to heat waves and 71 have died due to thunderstorm (Source : India Meteorological Department, 2020)
